Ideas Alchemy is the working brand and identity of Ben Mizen.
Ben has been involved in education and training since starting as undergraduate at the College of St. Paul and St Mary (Gloucestershire University) in 1989. Initially training and working as a primary class teacher he then moved into working in informal education and youth work.
Working for Youth For Christ, the Anglican Church and The Boys’ Brigade, he designed and delivered training programmes to meet the needs of young people and their leaders. Between 2005 and 2018 he held the post of Diocesan Youth & Children’s Adviser for the Diocese of Portsmouth developing policy, programme and training across the region and at a national level .
During this time he further developed his interests in creative teaching methods, how to use disruptive forces, understanding generational theory and using coaching conversation techniques in teams. Most notably he experienced the innovative teaching methods and programmes of the Kaospilots in Denmark and trained as a facilitator of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method and materials
In 2018 he founded Ideas Alchemy, a small learning and development consultancy that blends the worlds of smart thinking, innovative training and pure creativity with team development and organisational change. It operates on the belief that developing your team and organisation creates greater capacity and deeper understanding to navigate the disruptive world of work and life together!
Ben is Lead Facilitator for Ideas Alchemy where he specialties in team and strategic development for charities, businesses and educational organisations. He is an active member of a local Improvement Community of Practice and is part of network of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® professionals called “Brickmind”. He also lectures part-time in the School of Business, Law & Communications at Solent University, where he focuses on enterprise, innovation and disruptive technology.
